Adult Skills Day Program

Our daytime skills program is for teens and adults who have completed school but who want to continue to build skills and be supported in employment or income producing activities.

What We Focus On

Every participant has their own goals, their own interests and their own version of a great day. The adult program wraps around all of that — building skills and capacity in ways that are meaningful for each individual.

Employment Skills

Building confidence and capability for the working world

For participants who have goals around employment, we support the development of practical work skills — focus, task completion, communication in a work context, and the kind of independence that makes employment genuinely possible. Because having a disability shouldn't mean having no pathway to work.

Daily Living & Self-Care

The skills that build a more independent life

From personal care routines to cooking, cleaning, getting dressed and managing a schedule — daily living skills are woven into every day in a way that feels natural rather than clinical. We meet each person where they are and build from there, celebrating every step forward no matter how small it might look from the outside.

Health & Physical Wellbeing

Moving, feeling good and taking care of themselves

Physical health matters — and for many participants, building healthy movement habits and body awareness is a key focus. Whether that's structured activity, getting outdoors, or simply building the habit of moving and feeling good, we support each person to prioritise their own wellbeing in ways that work for them.

Social Connection

Expanding their world, one connection at a time

Community access, peer connection and social skill building are threaded through every single day. Outings, group activities, shared experiences — all of it builds the kind of social confidence and connection that makes life richer. For many participants and families, expanding that circle is one of the most important things we can do.

When School Finishes, The Question Every Family Faces Is: What Now?

For young people with disabilities and their families, that transition can feel like falling off a cliff. The structure, the support, the social connection — suddenly it's all gone, and the responsibility lands entirely back on the family.

Peppermint Place Adult Skills Day Program exists to change that. For participants, it's a place to grow, connect, create and build a life that's genuinely theirs. For families, it's the breathing room to work, rest, or simply have a day knowing their person is somewhere that truly gets them.

We're currently welcoming new participants across all days — so now is a great time to get in touch.

How Does It Work

The Day

Programs run Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm (with flexibility to 3pm where needed). Transport can be arranged depending on individual needs and availability — just let us know when you get in touch and we'll work out what suits your situation best.

Each day looks a little different — because each person is different. There's a general framework to the day, but what actually happens within it shifts based on who's here, how everyone's feeling, and what each individual needs on that particular day. Some days that means getting out to a park or local area. Others it's creating, cooking, making music, playing games or just having a quiet, supported day doing things they enjoy.

Flexibility isn't an afterthought here — it's the whole point.

Food breaks are built into every day, and we cater to dietary requirements and preferences shared at enrolment.

What a Typical Day Might Include

No two days are identical — but here's a flavour of what participants might experience:

An outing in the community, followed by a creative session working on individual art or craft projects. A shared lunch break with conversation and connection. An afternoon of music, games or self-directed activity — or for some, focused daily living skill practice.

Woven through all of it: real support, real relationships, and a team who genuinely care about every single person in the room.

We aim to help them build skills in self-care, living independently, employment or income producing activities and maintaining a health body through diet choices and regular exercise/movement.

Craft-Ability: Arts, Crafts & Creative Income Opportunities

This is one of our favourite parts of the program!

Participants who love making things are supported to find their creative thing — whether that's visual art, crafts, or handmade creations. We also find that participants like to explore and try a variety of mediums. We've even have even taken them on a beach trip to collect shells for their art creations, incorporating some time out in nature with building their creative pursuits.

For those who have the capacity and interest, we help them take it further. That means supporting them to sell their work through local markets and online platforms, creating a small income stream that's genuinely theirs and that they can create ongoing.

Not every participant will follow the path of turning it into an income — for some, the joy is purely in the exploring or making, and that's just as celebrated. But for those who can, the pride of creating something and earning from it is something that can't be replicated.

Who This Is For

The adult program is open to school leavers right through to age 65 — supporting participants with autism, intellectual disability, complex communication needs and high support needs. If Peppermint Place supported your child or teen, the adult program is the natural next step. And if you're finding us for the first time as an adult — welcome. You belong here too.

How Enrolments Work

New participants are warmly welcome — and the process is straightforward. Start with a registration form, and we'll organise a visit so you and your family member can explore the space, meet the team, and make sure it feels right. Once everyone's happy, a service agreement is sent through and the first day is confirmed together.

Capacity

The program runs with 6 to 10 participants per day depending on the care ratios needed. This keeps the environment genuinely supportive rather than just supervised.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Days and Hours Does the Program Run?

The adult program runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm. Where needed, this can extend to 3pm on a case-by-case basis.

Is Transport Available?

Pick up or drop off transportation can be arranged depending on individual needs and our vehicle availability. Let us know when you enquire and we'll work out what suits your situation and if we are able to accommodate it.

What Age Range Does The Program Cover?

The adult program is open to school leavers right through to age 65.

How Many Participants Are In The Program?

Between 6 and 10 participants per day, depending on the care ratios required. This keeps the environment supportive and individual — never just a room full of people.

Is There a Waitlist?

No — we're currently welcoming new participants! Get in touch to get the process started.

Do You Support Participants With Complex or High Support Needs?

Absolutely. We support the same range of needs as our school-aged programs — including autism, intellectual disability, complex communication needs and behaviours of concern. Nothing you share about your family member will put us off. The more we know, the better we can support them.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Honestly? It depends on the person and the day. There's a general structure, but the program flexes around each individual — their capacity, their interests and how they're travelling on any given day. Outings, creative sessions, life skills practice, games, music, food breaks — all woven together in a way that works for the people in the room.

What is The Craft-Ability Program?

Craft-Ability is our arts and creative income program. Participants who love making things are supported to develop their craft and — where they have the interest and capacity — to sell their creations through local markets and online platforms. For those who just love creating without the sales side, that's equally celebrated. It's about pride, purpose and doing something that's genuinely theirs.

What Should Participants Bring?

Their lunch and snacks for the day. Comfortable clothing appropriate for the day's activities, any personal care items needed, and comfort items or specific foods from home if they have particular preferences. We'll let you know if anything specific is needed for planned activities or outings.

What Happens if a Participant is Having a really Hard Day?

Our team will change the day's plans to focus on low capacity activities. We will always try everything we know works for that individual first. If things remain really difficult, we'll call the family to talk through options together before suggesting an early pickup. We work with families, not around them.

What Is The Cancellation Policy?

We require 48 hours' notice for cancellations. If you're unsure whether this applies to your specific funding type, just ask us at enrolment and we'll walk you through it.

Do You Administer Medication?

Yes. Medication consent and details are captured during the enrolment process so everything is in place from day one.
